Some places have songs to go with them. Did you ever notice that? Or maybe it’s just me. There’s this one stretch of highway that always makes me think of the Rodey Atkins song, “Take a Back Road.” It’s right there, by the woodworking shop at the top of the hill.
And the high school soccer field makes me think of 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman, because one sunset evening while I was playing defense with our church group, the soccer ball was ALWAYS at the other end of the field (good offense, I guess!). The goalie started singing that song and we were sitting in the grass… the mosquitoes came out and we only had to move to swat them. Eventually the ball made it back to our end, and I always associate that song with the prickly summer grass.
And I can still taste that Sandy’s ice cream cone and feel the river sand under my halter top strap.
